Haley Valliant

Professional Development Plan
Rationale
  • Domain 1: NMTEACH 1F Designing student assessment- When it comes to testing I'm not a fan. I find ways to assess student learning that continues with the learning process. I feel I need improvement on developing formative tests.

  • Domain 2: NMTEACH 2E: Managing student behavior- When it comes to student behavior I have been lenient. This is something I have been working on since the beginning of student teaching. My thoughts are that children make sense of the world through interaction and trial and error. I do reinforce expectations, however, I tend to let students work things out on their own at times.

  • Domain 3: NMTEACH 3C: Engaging students in learning: To me this is an element that always needs improving. Not only with students but with teachers as well. There will always be new ways and research in how to engage and motivate learners.

Notes:

"Ms. Valliant demonstrated expertise in the management of her time, the students, and a high level of knowledge of her proposed lesson. She flawlessly provided a comprehensive anticipatory set which informed students what the lesson was about, and allowed them to access their background knowledge, which heightened their interested and deepened their learning. Ms. Valliant stated her agenda as well as explained to the students why the lesson was important. She referenced current events, and the Native American culture which made the lesson more relevant. There was mutual respect throughout the lesson, and she was extremely patient and thorough as she answered questions. In order to more streamline classroom management, she enlisted the help of students to seamlessly transition from theory to practice (lab). Students continued to participate and cooperate, and few showed any level of distraction. Ms. Valliant concluded her lesson, checked for understanding, and asked for further questions. Well Done."
